The World Food Forum Startup Innovation Awards, powered by XTC, is a global startup competition, showcasing innovators and entrepreneurs who are creating new technologies that will drive the transformation of agri-food systems. These fantastic innovations will benefit us and our planet, supporting the goal of ending global hunger and getting a step further towards achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
We received nearly 150 applications for the awards, and would like to thank the team of global agribusiness and agritech expert evaluators for taking the time to narrow these down to our semi-finalists, then the finalists and ultimately determining the winners of the awards.
As Deputy Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) Beth Bechdol said during the awards ceremony
“…for [the judges] to be a part of this really important event, it showcases their commitment, enthusiasm and full support they give to entrepreneurs and young people looking to make a difference in the world.”
The judging wasn’t an easy process at all, with so much potential in each company and the contributions and great leadership the founders are demonstrating – we can all see a very exciting future for each and every one of them!
Umami Meats – The judges are really excited about the technological developments that are coming in this really important protein driven journey and developing seafood that is better for nature and better for you.
FaunaTech – The judges are very impressed by the fact that FaunaTech is delivering important technology for early detection of critical diseases, monitoring cattle health, screening milk quality, and reducing antibiotic usage to farmers who need it the most and in the low income countries.
Mi Terro – The judges loved that Mi Terro are making important contributions to climate resilience by ensuring plant-based and animal-based agricultural wastes are upcycled and engineered to replace microplastic.
Dietrics – The judges were all ready to try the natural ingredients for tasty, healthier, natural food, created by Southeast Asia’s first nano-ingredient food company, particularly Dr. Máximo Torero Cullen!
Congratulations Mi Terro!
The judges were so impressed, by not only the technology innovation and the partnerships that are being forged by this emerging company, but the real commitment to ensure that agriculture is truly a part of the solution to so many of the world’s challenges as opposed to being part of the problem.
Regretfully, Mi Terro and their founder and CEO Robert Luo were unable to attend the event in person. However, they were tuned in to the live stream to hear the announcement!
