Challenge

Overview

The Extreme Tech ChallengeSM (XTC) global start-up competition discovers and supports new technologies and innovations to solve the world's most extreme problems. Drawing from the United Nation's 17 Sustainable Development Goals, XTC® partners will encourage the world’s most promising entrepreneurs to develop solutions to the greatest challenges facing humankind. The XTC® Competition will also connect innovators with a network of investors and entrepreneurs and provide up to $10,000,000 in funding to top contenders.

Eligibility

The XTC® Competition is open to all product or service submissions based on a new technology or an innovative application of an existing technology built by the submitting company. Applicants must be legally incorporated – or registered – in their country of origin. The proposed business cannot be in violation of any intellectual property rights, including but not limited to patent infringement.

Evaluation

XTC® competitors will be evaluated by a team of highly experienced investors, entrepreneurs, and executives. Submissions will be judged based on their quality, ability to address the corresponding U.N. Sustainability Development Goals, and long-term viability. All competitors will be required to submit a 5-minute “elevator-pitch” video as part of their application. Applications will be evaluated primarily on the quality of the elevator pitch, the extent to which it clearly communicates the company’s product or service, and how it seeks to achieve a meaningful end goal. Additional details are available on the application.

Privacy

All submissions will be kept absolutely confidential and will only be shared with the internal XTC review committee.

Timeline

The submission process will begin on May 16, 2019. The Top 10 global finalists will be announced in April 2020 and the Top 3 global winners will be announced at VivaTech 2020 in Paris, France.

Financing

There are no restrictions on current revenue level or capital raised to date.

Prizing

Ten global finalists will be selected over the course of the competition. The Top 10 global finalists will be selected to pitch their proposals to a panel of venture capital firms to receive a potential investment of up to $10,000,000 in equity financing.
