Challenge

Overview

The Extreme Tech ChallengeSM (XTC) global start-up competition discovers and supports new technologies and innovations to solve the world's most extreme problems. Drawing from the United Nation's 17 Sustainable Development Goals, XTC® partners will encourage the world’s most promising entrepreneurs to develop solutions to the greatest challenges facing humankind. The XTC® Competition will also connect innovators with a network of investors and entrepreneurs for potential to raise capital.

Eligibility

The XTC® Competition is open to all product or service submissions based on a new technology or an innovative application of an existing technology built by the submitting company. Applicants must be legally incorporated – or registered – in their country of origin. The proposed business cannot be in violation of any intellectual property rights, including but not limited to patent infringement.

Evaluation

XTC® competitors will be evaluated by a team of highly experienced investors, entrepreneurs, and executives. Submissions will be judged based on their quality, ability to address the corresponding U.N. Sustainability Development Goals, and long-term viability. All general applicants must apply here. Each application will be evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • Tech for Good and Impact on the Sustainable Development Goals
  • Product Market Fit
  • Product/Service Innovation
  • Team

Privacy

All submissions will be kept confidential and will only be shared with the internal XTC review committee, and official XTC partners.

Timeline

The submission process will begin on May 16, 2019. The Top 10 global finalists will be announced in May 2020 and the Top 3 global winners will be announced at XTC 2020 Global Finals.

Financing

There are no restrictions on current revenue level or capital raised to date.

Winners

35+ Global Finalist will be selected over the course of the competition. The Global Finalists will be selected to pitch their proposals to a panel VCs, corporate leaders, and entrepreneurs. 1 winner per category will be announced. The categories are fintech, education, health, agriculture/food, smart cities/transportation, cleantech/greentech/materials, and enabling technologies.

Extreme Tech ChallengeSM (XTC) is a nonprofit public benefit corporation with a mission to promote education and science by nurturing the global entrepreneurial ecosystem through developing technologies to address the world’s biggest problems. The Extreme Tech ChallengeSM competition brings together startups, businesses, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and world leaders to design solutions that address the challenges facing humanity and our planet.
